Gynecomastia Treatment Without Surgery | Let’s Rate It!

It is not unusual for people struggling with gynecomastia to ask about gynecomastia non-surgical treatment options in Beverly Hills. I consult with many patients who wish to reduce their breast tissue to a more naturally-pleasing look.

I am Dr. Babak Dadvand, a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in plastic surgery of the breast and body, with a particular focus on gynecomastia. Today I will share with you three non-surgical options for gynecomastia and I will take it one step further, and rate these options out of 5.

1. Estrogen Blockers

We know that too little testosterone or too much estrogen is usually the problem with gynecomastia. Therefore, estrogen blockers, when used during the early onset of gynecomastia, can help decrease breast tissue development. It can also reduce any pain that may be experienced as a result of gynecomastia. It is important to understand the side effects of estrogen blockers since too little estrogen can negatively affect your health. This includes the development of osteoporosis, mood disorders, heart disease, and sexual dysfunction. Thus, estrogen blockers must be used in consultation with a medical professional.

My rating for estrogen blockers as a gynecomastia non-surgical treatment option? 2/5

2. CoolSculpting

The non-invasive CoolSculpting gynecomastia treatment uses probes to lower the body’s temperature to crystalize the unwanted fat cells, causing them to shatter. This allows the body to naturally digest and eliminate unwanted fat cells. The challenge here is that CoolSculpting gets rid of fat tissue, and not the excess breast tissue – which is the crux of gynecomastia. However, CoolSculping may be beneficial to those struggling with pseudogynecomastia – a condition where there is too much fatty tissue in the chest. Of importance though, is the CoolSculpting gynecomastia risk factor, PAH (paradoxical adipose hyperplasia), having the opposite effect.

3. Natural Remedies

Natural home remedies for gynecomastia such as milk thistle and turmeric may have you wondering how it works! Well, turmeric may have an association with the body’s ability to produce more testosterone, and as you know, with gynecomastia, the issue is not having enough testosterone or having too much estrogen. Thus, taking turmeric may stimulate the production of testosterone in the body, however there is uncertainty as to whether this has the potential to actually reverse gynecomastia.

The milk thistle remedy, on the other hand, is more for the liver. The liver’s job is to absorb estrogen from the bloodstream. Now, if your liver is not working optimally, then it could lead to a build-up of estrogen. So, in essence, if your liver is functioning well, then milk thistle won’t really be of benefit. It is my opinion that these natural remedies won’t work for true gynecomastia, unfortunately.
