Gynecomastia Surgery for Out of Town Patients
As a specialist in gynecomastia surgery, Dr. Dadvand sees and performs this surgery on a routine basis. There has been an increase in the number of patients from outside of Los Angeles who are coming to see and be treated by Dr. Dadvand. Gynecomastia is a relatively common issue affecting men of all ages and sizes. Whether you are from California, Arizona, or as far away as Florida, it is important to be treated by someone qualified and experienced in this surgery.
The main difference in treating a patient from out of town or out of state is in the pre-planning. Typically Dr. Dadvand will review photographs and have a phone consultation with patients prior to their deciding to travel to Los Angeles. This is very helpful for both the patient and Dr. Dadvand because they can ask all of their questions and Dr. Dadvand can also get a sense of what caused their gynecomastia. Now, while there is no substitute for an in-person consultation and physical examination, the pre-consult is very helpful in answering a lot of questions.
In many instances, the pre-consultation is so helpful the patient decides to move forward with surgery. This is where Dr. Dadvand’s office staff is so instrumental. They will then coordinate the in-person consultation, the preoperative testing that needs to be completed, the surgical scheduling, as well as other important things such as hotel suggestions that are affordable and close to the office.
Typically Dr. Dadvand prefers patients that are flying to Los Angeles to be there at least two days prior to their surgery. This reduces the risks of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Dr. Dadvand then sees the patient in consultation, performs an exam, and details the surgical plan tailored for that patient. Consents are signed, photographs are taken, and the patient is fitted for a post-surgical compression vest. The medical clearance and blood work, if not done prior to the patient’s arrival, can also be done on the day of the consultation.
Dr. Dadvand prefers his out of town patients to stay in Los Angeles for 7-8 days. He sees his patients on the day after surgery and again around the one week point. Although Dr. Dadvand typically sees patients again at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, for the out of town patients this often needs to be modified. Dr. Dadvand typically follows up via phone or email to ensure that his patients are healing well. An aftercare email is sent to the patients regarding their postoperative restrictions, when they can resume all activities, and when they can stop wearing their compression vest.
For an out of town patient the key to a smooth experience is planning. Dr. Dadvand and his staff make sure that the only thing you have to worry about is what to pack. Surgery is stressful enough for most patients, let alone being in a different city, so it is important that there is a sense of calmness for out of town patients so they can focus on their recovery.
